Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist CA #102540 AZ #10657

Welcome!  My name is Lauren and I am deeply passionate about helping humans access their full potential.  I believe it is my dharma – or my sacred calling.  Ever since I was young, I always enjoyed deeply listening to others and hearing their story. I instinctively knew the healing potential of having a trusted compassionate witness or someone to reflect back your inner process. I felt that the narrative we tell ourselves about our past could be the source of our suffering or the key to our freedom. I believed that every human being has a divine purpose, and separation from this purpose creates much of the suffering we experience.  When we have a witness to help contain, alchemize, and transmute our pain, this can help us remember our sovereignty.

I have worked for 10+ years in mental health and addiction treatment, and I have come to the conclusion that every diagnosable mental health disorder is really a coping skill in disguise - an attempt at regaining control or balance. It may take the form of an addiction, a narcissistic or abusive relationship, heavy hopelessness, or paralyzing anxiety. However, my belief is that through these symptoms the psyche is attempting to protect itself after a childhood of pain, trauma, or a lifetime of stress and imbalance. I believe in listening to our symptoms rather than pathologizing them, as they are often oysters that hold the pearls to our deeper healing.

Moreover, if we weren’t given the tools or supportive caregivers to help us make meaning out of difficult experiences in childhood or adolescence, we often internalized a message that “I am unlovable,” “I am not enough,” or “I am unworthy.” Furthermore, as a human tribe we are also losing connection with each other, and this lack of community creates a loneliness and isolation that only exacerbates this suffering. Thus, in this modern world we often transition to adulthood without the sacred rite of passage from our elders that serves to make meaning out of our pain. This translates to struggles in our relationships, health and wellness, careers, life purpose, and ability to feel free and joyful.

With that said, I believe that you have an Inner Healer that “knows the way,” and my role as your therapist is to help you re-ignite this sacred relationship with this part of you. As part of this process, I believe that an individual’s encounter with their personal unconscious is essential for the healing process. Our unconscious is a sacred cave where we store our insecurities, painful memories, deepest fears, and feelings of guilt and shame. I believe that true healing happens when we feel safe enough to explore this hidden cave and integrate it’s contents into our authentic Self. My goal is co-create this foundation of safety and trust with you so we can explore the cave together with courage, compassion, and curiosity.

  • I believe that a strong collaborative relationship between the two of us can transform even the most painful and complex circumstances.

Finding a therapist is much like dating and finding the right partner. With that said, I fully understand that I am not the therapist for everyone. We should vibrationally align in a way that allows you to feel both safe and willing to be challenged. In attachment theory, this is called the bliss point of optimal frustration and optimal gratification. This is how we grow and become the highest version of ourselves. I am your greatest cheerleader and your most honest, brutal companion. I am not here to coddle or enable you, but I am also here to love you unconditionally.

I see my role as supporting you on your healing journey, but also challenging you when I observe your actions not aligning with your values.

I believe in taking a holistic approach to your healing. Your mind, body, and spirit are all deeply connected. How we treat our bodies has a profound impact on our mental health. You have a divine right to be empowered over your health. You are a sovereign being. Unfortunately, our Western healthcare system does not focus on holistic healing (for various, unfortunate yet obvious reasons) and prioritizes treating the symptom rather than supporting you in accessing your inner healer. While treating symptoms can be incredibly helpful in the short-term, we must get to the root of the underlying issue to cultivate enduring healing and wholeness. The placebo effect is real and powerful.

If we can impact your thoughts, we can impact your entire well-being. Your thoughts create your reality.

In addition, there are so many harmful toxins and pollutants in our food and water supply, and what we consume can greatly affect our mental health. Eating a nutrient dense, organic diet can help improve many neurological disorders. Meditation has been shown to decrease racing, anxious thoughts. Daily exercise or body movement can have a profound effect on depression symptoms. In fact, one hour of vigorous cardiovascular exercise has been proven to be more effective than Prozac in some cases. With that said, your behaviors and choices outside of our therapy sessions all impact your mental wellness.

I am interested in helping you become more mindful of these daily choices to bring your mind, body, and spirit into vibrant harmony so you can thrive.

When you can honor a situation for how it served your growth, and when you can allow aspects of it to die, you create conditions for a viable new story to be born.
